Biography
Simplifying Family Law. “I believe that listening to a client’s story and getting to know them is at the heart of every matter. Everyone’s situation is different; tailoring a strategy that works best for each client and their family involves careful attention to not only their current circumstances but also their future goals. Considering also the potential long-term effects of divorce or other family law matters can best position families for lasting success. While family law matters are often the most stressful time in many people’s lives, guiding clients with care and concern and keeping them informed of the steps along the way helps bring clarity and support during this demanding time. I strive to simplify the complicated legal process by connecting with kindness, staying focused and attentive, and providing the guidance clients may rely on to make informed decisions.“
Ryan has a deep interest in understanding what justice means and pursuing equitable results. This translates exceptionally well into the field of family law where Ryan assists families to achieve their desired outcomes. As a co-parent himself, Ryan also appreciates firsthand the kinds of challenges that parents face both during and after divorce. A kind and compassionate listener, Ryan is aware of both the stress and complexities involved in family law matters, yet he works tirelessly to engender a sense of hope for life on the other side.
A Wisconsin native, Ryan graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a dual major in Criminal Justice and History. After graduating in 2004, Ryan moved to Minneapolis, immediately fell in love with Minnesota, and has never looked back. He attended the University of Minnesota Law School where he received his Juris Doctor in 2007. Ryan joined Smith Family Law in 2022 working side-by-side with attorney Tara L. Smith.
Ryan enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family, although you may sometimes hear him playing guitar or find him caught up in a book about history. Always up for an adventure, Ryan’s love of the outdoors also often leads him to partake in the tremendous hiking, birding, fishing, and biking opportunities our state has to offer.
